AMSTERDAM CITY SKIN indicates how the posters are part of the skin of the city. You see them on the street, but you don't always realize that they also shape the city. Inspired by recycling, Lukas Kwant has used posters of dismantled advertising columns for new collages.
The reams of paper are carefully separated layer by layer and then used again. The surprise when soaking has led to new graphic works, each work is therefore unique. The posters refer to the parties and performances that have been in Amsterdam in the past. The oldest posters he encountered were from 2010. The board is sheet metal found on the street, to be reused, which means that every size is different.
One part of the works is cast in epoxy to give the work a new layer that gives more depth to the color. The other part is framed with the structure of the collages still clearly visible. The collages are democratic, they can be hung in all kinds of ways, there is no up or down.
